I had a chance to chat with Joanna Penn of TheCreativePenn.com, where she shares tips for writers who are looking to publish their work and connect with readers.

In the discussion, we cover a range of topics, including:

  • Why an author platform is essential for most writers.
  • Her experience in publishing her first novel this year.
  • How she manages her time as a writer.

  1. Joanna and Dan, great interview! I always love Joanna’s video’s for their information and for the feeling that each time I get to know you better. You are so right about that aspect of marketing. If folks feel like they know you, they’ll buy your book, even if it’s just out of loyalty, not to mention because it’s a great book. Thanks for making this video!

  4. A small group of young writers, editors and translators located in Austin organized this editorial project: http://damnatioadbestias.wordpress.com/ An option for those who are thinking about self-publishing. The logic of Damnatio ad Bestias is not commercial, but literary, which might be a plus for daring authors of good but rare texts with problems to get read by big editorials.

  5. A suggestion. Tell people how long the video is so one can decide to watch it now or later. I wasn’t able to find how long the video was just by looking at it. Thanks!
